How to read these figures
- Period changes · 52-week position
A plus figure means the currency strengthened against the won (the won weakened). A minus figure means the won strengthened.
1 week and 1 month are calendar periods (7 and 30 days). If the start date was a holiday, the comparison uses the previous published rate. Year to date compares with the last published rate of the previous year.
The 52-week position is 0% near the 52-week low and 100% near the 52-week high. It describes the past range only and says nothing about the direction ahead.
Longer series are on the macro pages. The USD/KRW series compiled by the US Federal Reserve is on USD/KRW, and the index of the dollar against a basket of trading partner currencies is on Dollar index. Those use the New York noon rate, so their values differ from the published rates on this page.
Read an exchange rate by its direction first. When USD/KRW rises, one dollar costs more won, which means the won has weakened.
